Lighter price has rallied 28% over the past 24 hours to around $2.95 on Aug. 20, making $LIT the biggest gainer among the top 100 cryptocurrencies.
CoinGecko data showed $LIT climbing from around $2.30 to an intraday high near $2.97, with the rally accelerating during the Asian and European trading sessions. The token was also up more than 20% over the past seven days.
The latest buying has coincided with speculation over whether Lighter could eventually gain from a regulated route for decentralised perpetual futures in the United States.
Ethereum developer Eric Conner noted on Aug. 20 that Lighter founder and CEO Vladimir Novakovski sits on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's Innovation Advisory Committee, which is holding its inaugural meeting in Washington on Thursday.
The CFTC lists Novakovski among the committee's members, alongside executives from Coinbase, Uniswap Labs, Kraken, Polymarket and other crypto and financial companies.
The committee advises the regulator on technology, law, policy and financial markets, with digital assets and blockchain technology among its areas of focus.
Interest in Novakovski's position increased after reports that rival perpetual futures platform Hyperliquid has been exploring a legal route into the US market.
Traders have speculated that regulatory progress for decentralised derivatives could eventually benefit other platforms, including Lighter.
Lighter, however, has not announced plans to offer perpetual futures in the US, while the CFTC has not approved such a move.
The regulatory angle behind Thursday's $LIT rally therefore remains based on trader speculation.
Large purchases added another catalyst as the price climbed. On-chain account reports suggested that a previously inactive buyer accumulated 594,202 $LIT within around six hours, spending approximately $1.57 million through CoW Protocol.
The position later increased to 648,876 $LIT, valued at around $1.84 million, after another approximately $270,000 purchase.
Data showed execution prices rising from around 2.65–2.73 to 2.82–2.85, meaning the buyer continued purchasing $LIT as its market price increased.
Behind Thursday's activity, Robinhood's integration with Lighter has provided another source of demand for the token.
Robinhood said eligible users in selected jurisdictions can access Lighter perpetual futures directly through Robinhood Wallet, while Lighter has committed 11 million $LIT tokens to the Robinhood community.
Under the programme, eligible perpetual futures trades made through Robinhood Wallet earn twice the points available through Lighter's own web application.
The points convert directly into $LIT from the 11 million-token allocation, subject to Lighter's terms.
Trading access has also expanded through Paribu, which listed $LIT on Aug. 19 and opened another venue for the token, particularly for users of the Turkish exchange.
$LIT price analysis
$LIT's daily chart shows the Aug. 20 rally breaking decisively above the consolidation that had kept the token between approximately $2.20 and $2.50 for much of the previous two weeks.

The daily Aroon indicator supports the strength of the breakout. Aroon Up has reached 100%, while Aroon Down has fallen to 0%, showing that $LIT has recently recorded a new high while its latest significant low sits much further back in the indicator's lookback period.
Volume has also increased alongside the breakout. The Aug. 20 daily candle reached $2.97 after opening around $2.60, while the chart showed approximately 1.49 million $LIT in volume at the time of capture.
Auto Fibonacci extension levels place the next technical hurdle around the 1.618 extension at $3.12.
A sustained break above that level could expose the 2.618 extension near $3.69, while the psychological $3 level remains the immediate barrier.
On the 4-hour chart, $LIT has surged above the Keltner Channel's $2.71 upper band, with its midline and lower band sitting near $2.47 and $2.24, respectively. See below.

Trading above the upper channel indicates unusually strong upside momentum, although the distance between price and the channel also leaves $LIT vulnerable to a short-term pullback if buyers fail to maintain the breakout.
The 4-hour CCI also supports the strong momentum, rising to around 269 after briefly crossing 400 during the breakout, well above the +100 level associated with strong buying pressure.
If buying pressure holds, the daily Fibonacci structure places $3.12 as the first upside target, followed by $3.69.
A pullback below $2.93 would put the 2.70–2.71 area around the four-hour Keltner upper band back in focus, while the channel's midline near $2.47 provides the next technical level below it.
