$USDC and WETH are now available on Neo X through Chainlink’s CCIP-powered Transporter bridge, marking the first tokens configured for cross-chain transfer on the network’s CCIP integration. The activation opens the door for stablecoin and $ETH liquidity on Neo X, opening pathways for DeFi, trading, and application development across the ecosystem.
When NNT covered the initial CCIP MainNet deployment in May, the integration supported only arbitrary messaging with a single Neo X-Ethereum lane and no tokens configured for transfer. The Sept. 14 announcement changes that status, activating the token transfer functionality that had remained dormant since deployment.
Bridged $USDC and WETH
The tokens available through the integration are $USDC.e and WETH. $USDC.e is a bridged representation of $USDC, distinct from native Circle-issued $USDC. It is created through a lock-and-mint mechanism: $USDC is locked in a vault on the source chain, and $USDC.e is minted 1:1 on Neo X. To redeem, the process reverses: $USDC.e is burned on Neo X, releasing the locked $USDC on the originating chain. The “.e” suffix indicates Ethereum as the origin chain.
WETH is the ERC-20 compatible version of $ETH, transferred cross-chain through CCIP’s lock-and-unlock token pools.
Transporter and cross-chain access
Transporter is Chainlink’s official cross-chain bridging application, built on top of CCIP. Launched in April 2024, the interface now supports over 20 chains, with Neo X joining networks including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, and Avalanche. Users can bridge $USDC.e and WETH to Neo X from any CCIP-supported chain where these tokens are configured.
Neo X connects to CCIP’s network of 70+ blockchains. Fee tokens for CCIP transactions on Neo X include LINK, WGAS, and native GAS.
Institutional infrastructure buildout
The CCIP token activation continues a sequence of institutional infrastructure additions to Neo X in 2026: LayerZero in April for omni-chain connectivity, CCIP messaging in May, BitGo custody in July, and now live token transfers in September, each layer addressing a different part of the stack from connectivity and custody to actual liquidity access.
