Shiba Inu ($SHIB) is ending August at $0.00000504 with an unusual quarterly return of +20.4%. The current monthly close has left investors facing a dilemma: Is it worth holding the asset through September? The token's price history provides two opposing answers.

September is historically the worst time for $SHIB. Statistics are against holders

Holding the coin in September carries a high short-term risk of losses. According to CryptoRank, the first month of autumn is the token's worst-performing period, with an average return of -2.72% and a median return of -2.99%. In all the years tracked, Shiba Inu has closed September in the green only twice.

This historical pessimism is confirmed by the TradingView daily chart, where the price has run into the massive barrier of the 200-day moving average (MA 200) at $0.00000537. The bulls' previous attempt to break above this line in mid-August failed under selling pressure, while the current RSI reading of 51.56 points to a critical lack of buyer strength needed to overcome this wall at the beginning of autumn.

This year is already not going according to plan — in a good way. The most profitable quarter lies ahead

For medium-term investors, holding through September is a strategic necessity ahead of a strong year-end. The third quarter of 2026 is already defying bearish trends: its +20.4% return is significantly stronger than the historical Q3 average of +2.39%. The token is entering autumn in much stronger shape than in previous cycles.

Directly below the current price, a dense support block has formed around the 23-day ($0.00000492) and 50-day ($0.00000471) moving averages, which are turning upward and protecting the asset from a deeper decline. Previous years show that September consolidation serves as a foundation ahead of the fourth quarter, which has an average historical return of +71.2%, and October, or "Uptober," with an average gain of +167.5%.

In the coming days, Shiba Inu is likely to continue moving within a narrowing trading range between support at $0.0000047 and resistance at $0.00000537. A breakout from this technical triangle will determine which of history's two answers proves correct through the end of 2026.
