On August 7, Axios reported that Trump Media had terminated the treasury deal with Crypto.com made in August 2025. Back then, it was announced as a $6.42 billion treasury play.

The proposed venture included $1 billion in Cronos [$CRO] tokens and a $5 billion credit facility as part of a broader $CRO-focused treasury strategy.

Prevailing market conditions and stakeholder priorities behind the terminated deal

Interim CEO Kevin McGurn said that the $CRO Strategy venture has been pulled. The collapse of such a large proposed venture within a year highlights some of the constraints facing crypto treasury strategies, particularly those built around less-liquid altcoins.

Compared with Bitcoin [BTC] and Ethereum [ETH], $CRO has a smaller market capitalization and thinner liquidity, potentially making a large-scale treasury strategy more difficult to execute.

$CRO is also tied to the Crypto.com ecosystem. Combined with the severe bear market conditions since October 2025, the strain was showing, and the deal has been called off.

The altcoin is down 13.8% over the past week and is likely headed for further drawdown. A month ago, on July 16, Crypto.com announced a $400 million strategic investment from Citadel Securities.

This funding would help the exchange’s rapid expansion into other asset classes, the announcement read. $CRO prices jumped by nearly 20% at the zenith of the day, before pulling back.

The path ahead for Cronos crypto

The price surge from the investment news did not last. Instead, it was quickly reversed, and buyers faced a rout in the market.

Since making a high of $0.067 on the day of the $400 million strategic investment announcement, $CRO crypto is down by 30.4%. Its losses since the announcement of the Trump Media deal termination have been sizeable, too, taking the token below the $0.053 support zone that had been defended since late June.

The volume indicators were firmly bearish. The CMF was at -0.28, well below the -0.05 threshold that signals strong capital outflows. The A/D indicator was also sliding lower to show seller strength.

$CRO crypto was already trading below the lows from October 2023, at $0.05, and is down 94% from its all-time high at $0.89, made in November 2021.

Final Summary

  • Trump Media terminated the $CRO Strategy venture, and the company’s interim CEO said that the crypto treasury model has its limits.
  • The $CRO crypto reaction has been brutally bearish. The price action and technical indicators highlighted overwhelming seller strength.
